Suck F*#k Test Repeat | Testing for Sexually Transmitted Diseases Bangkok

Did you know that an estimated 1 out of 5 MSM (Men who Sleep with Men) in Bangkok are HIV-positive? Sadly, most of them only discover they are carrying the virus long after they have contracted HIV.

So, if you are having too much fun in Bangkok remember to get yourself tested. Whether you call them STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases), STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections), or just “that itch down there” you can get tested for them in Bangkok.

Where: There are several locations across Bangkok to get tested for HIV and STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases). Test BKK is a great website which details the best and easiest places to get tested for STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) and HIV in Bangkok.

Cost: Don’t worry about the cost either for International tourists it only costs between 200-1000 THB ($6 – $30 USD) depending on the clinic or hospital you choose.

Staying Safe:  Number 1 defense against HIV and STDs is to wear a condom. You can purchase condoms and lube easily in Thailand at all 7/11 convenience stores and any supermarket (Big C, Tops or Tescos), or chemist. Additionally, most testing clinics will provide condoms when you go for an HIV test. Bear in mind, condoms are smaller made in Asia and Thailand compared to European and North American standards.

More Info: And for more detailed information check out Adams Love for the official guide to testing and treatment in Bangkok.

There are things more awkward than getting tested for an STD in Bangkok

Gay Sukhumvit Bangkok | Gay Friendly Fun

Gay Sukhumvit Road

Gay Sukhumvit Bangkok

Sukhumvit Road Bangkok and its many adjoining ‘sois’ (side-streets) are poor on traditional tourist attractions but rich in Bangkok style shopping, eating and nightlife. The many fashionable restaurants, bars, air-conditioned malls, luxury hotels and hip clubs give the area a distinctly modern, cosmopolitan flavour.

Unlike Silom there is not much Gay life happening along Sukhumvit Road. Although it’s dotted with many of the luxury hotels (Sofitel, Sheraton Grande, Westin), fashionable shopping malls (Terminal 21 and Emporium), and the trendy bars of Thonglor there are no gay bar or clubs located in this part of town. However this does not mean it is not worth a visit.

Two of the three straight red light areas are located on Sukumvit with the city’s most sinful spots, Nana Plaza (Soi 4) and Soi Cowboy (off Soi 23) found here. A few, stress-busting pockets of calm can be found in the sweet cafes, atmospheric restaurants and lush day spas that are hidden down many of its sois. Making exploring its staggering length incredibly easy with the Skytrain (BTS) that travels above the road.

Sukhumvit Soi 11 offers a great collection of bars and clubs. From street side converted VW van bars to swanky rooftops bars Soi 11 is a great party street but not a gay bar in sight.

Sukhumvit offers the best dining in Bangkok, from five-star dining to street stands, the variety of choices and tastes are almost overwhelming. Sukhumvit’s pavements have grown into a huge market carrying everything from fake brand name luggage to Rolex watches. After after midnight these street side markets turn into bars and pubs.

Sukhumvit Road is both Bangkok’s and Thailand’s longest road with most of the action happening in the first 60 Sois after which it become mainly residential. While Bangkok is often as a less cosmopolitanism city many international residences are found along Sukhumvit. Many Japanese nationals can be found in the area Soi 21 and upwards, but most tend to congregate around Soi 55. Indians have settled around Soi 12, while Arabs are grouped at Soi 3/1, which informally is known as Soi Arab.

And the Best club on Sukhumvit Soi 11 is Levels

And for a look into the dirtier side of Sukhumvit a video of Soi Cowboy located just off Soi 23.

Directions

Fake Club Bangkok – Popular Thai Men Gay Dance

Music: Fake Club The Next Gen Ratchada Soi 4 Bangkok, plays all the freshest Divas from Lady Ga Ga to Britney as well as many Thai and K-Pop bands. Between 11 pm and midnight, the bar hosts live music which has become popular with a small straight crowd as well. After midnight the DJ plays and the dancing starts.

Crowd: The club is packed at weekends with a young, highly fashionable crowd of local Bangkokers. They come with their K-pop inspired outfits and their choreographed routines to “slut drop” the night away. With Fake Club Bangkok’s local orientation, be prepared for much of the crowd not to speak English.

Drinks: The drink prices are reasonable here with beers starting at 120 THB ($4 USD), cocktails at 130 THB ($4 USD), while a bottle of whiskey costs between 990-1,690 THB ($30-50 USD).

Khao San Road | Backpacking Mecca

Khao San Road

While Khao San Road is not a gay district, no guide to Bangkok would be complete without describing this epic, party filled, Backpacking paradise. Khao San Road is located in the heart of “old Bangkok” with close proximity to many of the cities cultural attractions, including Grand Palace, Wat Pho, National Musum and Wat Arun.

However Khao San Road reflects a different type of culture. During the day the street is filled with market stalls selling everything a backpacker could desire from the latest edition of the Lonely Planet to your staple Havaiana Thongs (flip flops) and tank tops. The surrounding area of Banglampoo (Bang-Lam-Poo) is full of cheap hostels to medium priced hotels. On every corner there is a mixture of travel agents, restaurants, massage parlous and tattoo shops.

At night the market stalls disappear and are replaced by the tables and chairs from the make shift bars. The area is full of tourist, this is undeniable, but there are a large number of Thai students who come here to party for its cheap laid back atmosphere.

Staying in Khao San Road area is very popular with young gay backpackers. Traveling from here to Silom (Bangkok’s Gay District) or DJ Station (Bangkok’s biggest gay club) is relativity simple, taxi is really the only option. Without much traffic the journey is short around 15-20 minutes  (approximate 80-100 Baht , $3USD).

Music : Across the whole street you will hear only loud mainstream international pop. “The Club” Khao San Road’s main club plays world class house music.

Crowd: The crowd on Khao San Road is mainly young backpackers, with a few Thai students and a couple older tourist coming to experience the magic of Khao San Road.

Drinks: Each bar on Khao San Road as a whole the street its good value. Most bars serve the famous Thai Buckets which  have become synonymous with South East Asian Backpackers.

Dress: As with all backpackers the street is very casual, it looks as though the dress code of flip flops, shorts and tank tops is mandatory.

Khao San Road, Banglampoo (Bang-Lam-poo)

Taxi: Ask any taxi driver for Khao San Road (pronounced Cow San Road). This is the one street in the city every taxi know. However being a tourist detestation it may be difficult to get a taxi on meter, it is not usual to wait at least three taxis until one will drive on the meter.

BTS Sky Train: There are no Sky Trains in the old town Phaya Thai (BTS N2) and end of the Airport Link plus Ratchathewi (BTS N3) on the Sukhumvit Line are the closest to Khao San Road after a taxi is required (approximate 100 Baht , $3USD)

MRT Underground: Again there are no MRT Underground in the old town. Closest underground station is Hua Lamphong, again a taxi is required from here (approximate 100 Baht , $3USD

Silom Soi 2 | Home of DJ Station

Silom Soi 2

As Silom Soi 4 is winding down this is the place to be. Silom Soi 2 is a small alleyway home to an array of gay clubs and the Bangkok most famous gay club DJ Station. The entrance to the alleyway has a free bag check desk which has a very reliable track record following this there is a security and ID check. Photo ID is required prove you are over 20, and the guards are especially strict if you are Asian. This cluster of bars is one company with a set 150 baht for most drinks and cocktails, you can walk freely between the bars with your drinks in hand.

At the back of the street is DJ Station, Bangkok most famous gay club. With 3 floors of fun the club still manages to become packed to busting point on weekends.11.30 things start to kick off with the nightly drag show. 30 minutes of your classic drags ballads with Whitney, Maria and Celine making regular appearances on the playlist as well as some Thai and international pop songs. Once the show is over dancing begins and its starts getting lively.

Music : Silom Soi 2 plays the hottest mainstream international pop. Some of the bars play the occasional Thai pop song but most is pure international pop.

Crowd: Being home to Thailand’s most international gay club the crowd is a mix of trendy Thais, Asian and Western tourists.

Drinks: Silom Soi 2 is good value, entry is free for the street only DJ Station charges entry which is 150 baht on weekdays with one free drink and 300 baht at weekends which includes two drink voucher and after that all drinks are 150 baht. Be careful, the bars doesn’t use the highest quality spirits and you may end up with a nasty hangover the follow day.

Dress: Short and tank tops are fine but flip flops (thongs) are not allowed.  Most of the local Thais are dressed to impress.

Silom Soi 2 is located at the start of Silom Road in the Silom District of Bangkok. It is located between McDonald’s at the beginning of Silom Road and just before Burger King.
