Gay Popular Hotels in Central Mykonos

Mykonos is one of the Mediterranean’s most popular island destinations, and it also happens to be one of the hottest gay scenes in the world. The island fills up with visitors – both straight and gay – every summer, with gay Mykonos …

reaching a peak during the XLSIOR festival.

Due to its overwhelming popularity, Mykonos can be an expensive place to stay. Peak season rates will always be high, especially if you are staying in the main town (known as Chora) or on one of the more popular resort beaches.

Since the vast majority of Mykonos gay nightlife is located in Chora, all the hotels in this list are based in and around the town. It is a small town, with everything being within walking distance to each other – do bear in mind, however, that “walking distance” could still mean tackling an impossibly steep hill or two.

If you are planning to explore other areas in Mykonos – which you should, especially the gay-friendly beaches of Elia and Super Paradise – you’ll want to stay near one of the bus stations. Each is located at one end of the town, so consider where you’re likely to be going during your stay – the northern station, for instance, runs services to Elia, while the southern one goes to Super Paradise.

Elysium is one of the most popular gay hotels in Mykonos, and for good reason. This stylish 4-star is “straight-friendly”, but is very much one of the town’s biggest gay hotspots during the summer peak season. This is thanks in part to its poolside terrace bar, which combines some of the island’s most stunning sunsets with drag shows, parties, and more.

The hotel itself is modern and low-key. The rooms are decorated in a refreshing and minimalist style, with an entirely white color scheme offset by pieces of contemporary art. They come in two categories, with the Superior rooms being considerably larger. All rooms have at least a small balcony, although some have larger terraces and some have lovely sea views.

All guests get complimentary access to a small gym as well as to sauna, hydromassage, and steam room facilities.

Elysium is located a little outside the main town center, but it’s still only a 15-minute walk to seaside gay bars like Babylon. The location on top of a hill makes reaching the hotel a climb, but it is also the reason for its exceptional views.

The staff are one of the best things about Elysium. Not only are they attentive and friendly, but they are also a great source of gay insider knowledge about the island. Overall, the rates at Elysium are relatively high for Mykonos standards, but there is nowhere better to stay if you want to be right in the middle of Mykonos gay life.

Semeli Hotel is the perfect combination of high-end luxury with laid-back island style. The hotel is beautiful and impeccably designed, but nothing feels over-the-top. The style is simple and tasteful, highlighting the beauty of the island’s natural surroundings.

It has an excellent location – just removed enough from the bustle of the town, while still being within easy walking distance to everything. Indeed, all of the town’s best gay bars and clubs are at most 10 minutes away.

All the rooms at Semeli are decorated in a contemporary and understated style, dominated by the island’s ever-present white color scheme. Most have been recently renovated, meaning they feel fresh and new. All have a veranda or balcony, but we recommend splurging on the ones with a hot tub terrace. Several suites are available, which are ideal for groups of friends or for a more luxurious experience.

Semeli takes its Greek food very seriously, and you can taste the region’s exceptional seafood and centuries of culinary tradition at the hotel’s two fine dining restaurants. Breakfast is also a traditionally Greek affair, with home-made pastries and a generous selection of fresh local ingredients.

The hotel also boasts a small gym and a spa offering a variety of packages. There are two outdoor pools, one heated and one not. The larger, central pool has plenty of luxurious lounging space and a great bar.

Andronikos Hotel is a stylish boutique resort located outside of Mykonos town. With beautiful rooms, modern facilities, and attentive service, it is a great choice for those who just want to relax and forget about the world. It is also the third highest-ranked hotel in Mykonos town on TripAdvisor and very popular with gay visitors.

The rooms are stunning, blending classic Greek island style with contemporary design and lighting. Even the smallest category, the Cocoon Rooms, are supremely comfortable and beautifully designed with fluid curves and natural materials. Rooms come with a Sea View, Garden View, or Pool View, and several have their own private jacuzzi.

Andronikos features a lovely outdoor pool as well as excellent spa and fitness facilities. The gym is particularly noteworthy, with a good selection of cardio and weights equipment. The hotel is adults-only, which means no kids running around the pool, even during peak season.

The hotel has an award-winning modern Greek restaurant, as well as a more casual all-day dining options served at the bars. The Sky Bar is a relatively new addition, and makes for a great place for a sunset cocktail.

The main gay nightlife area in town is about a half-hour walk away, which is why many guests choose to hire a bike during their stay. There is a shuttle service to town twice a day, one in the morning and one in the evening, but you’ll have to get a taxi back. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk to Megali Ammos, a quiet if not a particularly scenic local beach.

Ilio Maris is one of the longest-standing hotels on the island, which means the hotel’s lovely and attentive staff know what they’re doing. A 2010 renovation has helped keep the place looking fresh. It combines traditional Cycladean design – whitewashed walls, natural materials like stone and wood – with clean, modern lines and a minimalist aesthetic.

The rooms are decorated in a unique style, with cool grey textured walls and modern furnishings. The Sea View rooms come with a private balcony, as do some of the Family and Triple rooms. The latter category overlooks the swimming pool and is well-suited to friends traveling together.

Said swimming pool is large and offers excellent views of the sea, and a swanky poolside bar is on hand to keep you cool with iced drinks. The continental breakfast is very good, with a wide variety of options.

The hotel is a short walk from Little Venice and the island’s iconic windmills and about 15 minutes from the town’s gay nightlife. Even better, Chora’s Southern Bus Station is under a 5-minute walk, giving you extremely easy and convenient access to gay-popular Super Paradise beach and the island’s main resort hub, Platys Gialos.

The Mykonos Bay takes the island’s pure white aesthetic to a whole new level, resulting in a beautiful (and very Istagrammable) decor. As a result of its gorgeous look and excellent beachside location, this chic resort is one of the highest-rated hotels in Mykonos on both Booking.com and TripAdvisor.

Indeed, The Mykonos Bay sits right on Megali Ammos, a small and quiet beach just south of Mykonos town. This is one of the best locations on the island if you want to be close to the town while still having immediate access to some sea and sand. It feels removed from the town, but Babylon and Jackie O, on the other side of Chora, are just a 20-minute walk from the hotel.

The rooms are understated, with all-white decor and the occasional nod to Greek classicism. They all have good amenities and many have excellent sea views. There is a wide range of larger rooms that are ideal for friends – the four-person suite with hot tub and the six-person annex suite with hot tub and private pool are particularly great choices.
